I don't post at all about racing events but this weekend's death of Scott Kalitta at Englishtown was a very sad story. A father of two who not only died but did so in a very graphic way. I can't imagine being at Englishtown and seeing this accident because it must have been devastating.
I grew up in East Brunswick (central NJ) which is the town next to Old Bridge where the Englishtown Raceway is located. I spent a number of weekends at the Raceway for various race events and had a lot of fun there and at the Englishtown market next door. I even know the hospital that Scott Kalitta was taken which is right off Route 18 in Old Bridge.
I still have family and friends in the East Brunswick and surrounding areas and I visit often but this story just reminded me of home. It is just sad that Scott Kalitta had to start his career and end it in the same place. At least he did what he enjoyed and that is something his family can be proud of.

Scott KalittaThis was definitely a very sad story and the images of it are engrained in my head. My thoughts definitely go out to his family, and really anyone who was there to watch the event unfold. -Nap |

Scott KalittaYeah its sad for sure but then again how many people can say they died doing what they love? A short list to be sure. Death isn't enjoyable by any means, my thoughts and prayers do go out to the family. But I think things like this just happen in a sport where you're going nearly over 300 MPH in the span of an eyeblink. Its almost a testament to the saftey engineers themselves that stories like this aren't more common place in racing.
